FOSTER CARE

Foster Hope...Foster Children

Campagna Academy's Therapeutic Foster Care Program seeks qualified families to provide loving, temporary homes for children in need, primarily teenagers. Drawing upon more than 60 years of experience working with youth and families, Campagna Academy has created a foster care program that works with foster families every step of the way to provide the skills necessary for moving their foster child toward independence and self-sufficiency.

Children in Need

Foster children range in age from birth to 18, come from all cultural backgrounds, and have experienced life disruption due to family crisis. They may suffer with emotional or learning disabilities, developmental delays, and/or behavior problems. Some have had parental rights terminated and need a stable home while awaiting adoptive placement.

Program Service Components

Campagna Academy staff supports and counsels potential foster parents throughout the process of becoming a foster parent. Together we identify individual parenting strengths and skills and make the best match for each placement through:

n   Individual case management

n  Individual and/or family therapy with Masters Level Clinicians

n   School and court advocacy

n   24 hour emergency crisis intervention

n   Monthly peer support groups

n   Training workshops

n   Respite care

Becoming a Foster Parent

Prospective foster parents must be at least 21 years of age, financially stable, and should have good parenting skills or a willingness to learn the skills necessary for successful placement. A foster parent may be single, married, widowed, or divorced.

We assist and facilitate potential foster parents throughout the state licensing process.

Basic licensing requirements include the following:

n  30 hours of pre-service training

n   First Aid, CPR, and Universal Precautions training

n   Home study and safety inspection

n   Physical examination and TB test

n   Criminal record and child abuse registry check

n   A working telephone

n   Access to transportation

n   Bedroom space for each foster child

n   Adequate income to financially support one's own family without reliance on the monthly foster parent stipend
